  The transistor

The transistor is the most important part of the logic chip. It stops electrons or lets them through. You can compare it to a barrier.

There are different types of transistors but the transistor that is the most popular today is theMOSFET. This stands for Metal- Oxide- Semiconductor Field-Effect Transistor.

The electrons flow from the source to the drain. If the gate is not controlled, no electrons will flow.


Do you remember?

Electric current flows from a high electric potential (+) to a low electric potential (-). Electrons move in the opposite direction. The electrons move from source to drain, but the current moves from drain to source.
In the rest of the course, we will talk about the direction of the moving electrons.
